5 Tips for Spring Cleaning Your Bedroom

Spring is in the air so now is a great time to start preparing for the big spring clean! When it comes to rolling your sleeves up, the communal areas tend to receive the most efforts. After all, they see a lot of wear and tear during the winter. But our bedrooms also need just as much attention. So, here are 5 tips to making sure that your bedroom is as squeaky clean as possible!

1. Prepare
The first step in making sure that your bedroom gets the full works is to prepare. Write a list of everything that you need to accomplish in the room so that you don’t miss anything as you work your way around.

2. Declutter
Begin by clearing out the clutter in your bedroom. If you have a stack of magazines collecting dust, or bags of old clothes that need to go to the charity shop, now is the time to do it.

3. Move furniture
It’s easy enough to clean everything you can see, but what about the places you can’t see? Dust and dirt can accumulate underneath beds, behind wardrobes and on top of cupboards, so the best way to remove it all is to move your furniture to get to those hard to reach spots.

4. Open the windows
The cold weather during the winter months can mean that the windows tend to stay closed. After all, we don’t want all of that cold air blowing in and ruining the cosiness! This can lead to the air getting stuffy and filled with dust mites and, in some cases, mould spores. Throw the windows open to let as much fresh air circulate around the room as possible.

5. Deep clean the mattress
Sure, cleaning the room itself is important but so is cleaning the actual mattress that you sleep on. Strip the bed and put all bedding on a boil wash, take the duvet and pillows to the laundrette to have them service washed and get to work on the mattress. You can do this by sprinkling a layer of bicarbonate of soda over the mattress and hoovering it off. Let the mattress air out and then cover it with a protector to ensure that it stays clean for as long as possible.
